The Spit, Gold Coast - The real Surfers Paradise

The Gold Coast has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world with some world famous surf breaks. The Gold Coast is Australia’s favourite surfing playground. It’s ironic that the so called Surfers Paradise itself rarely has good waves for surfing, but take a short drive north or south and you’ll run into some of the best, most consistent waves in the country.
This is the real surfers paradise!

We hold our surf lessons at the Spit which is just a short 10 minute drive north of Surfers Paradise. The Spit is one of the few areas on the Gold Coast that has been saved from development and is the ideal location for beginners to learn how to surf. The Spit has a break wall which not only allows for the formation of good sand banks but also reduces the strength of the stronger sweeps that occur on the more exposed beaches along the Gold Coast. It really is the beginner surfer’s paradise!

We meet in the last car park on the right, at the end of Sea World Drive (200m north of the Sea Way Kiosk). Just keep an eye out for the silver Surf In Paradise Volkswagen.

There's loads of parking. Toilets, showers and a kiosk are also available.

Backup Location

We find the majority of the time the sand banks are best at the Spit, however occasionally there is a better sandbank opposite Sea World. If the surf lesson is to be held here you will be informed. For the backup location we meet in the car park at Phillip Park which is opposite the Sea World car park and bus stops (just do a u-turn at the Sea World roundabout and then turn left).
